Why One Room Is Freezing And Another Room Feels Like Bali

Exploring the nuances of rooms having unbalanced airflow.

Why One Room Is Freezing And Another Room Feels like Bali.

And what your ductwork is (probably) doing wrong.

You set the temp, the system kicks on, and the lounge turns into a sweaty Airbnb while your bedroom feels like a woolies freezer section. Sound familiar?

You’re not alone.

Uneven airflow is one of the most common complaints we hear — and 90% of the time, it’s not because your unit’s undersized or “getting old.”

It’s because the ductwork wasn’t designed properly in the first place.

Let’s break down what’s going on.

The Duct Runs Are All Wrong

Long, winding duct runs with too many bends = less airflow.
Short, straight runs = Loads of pressure.

Your lounge is probably closest to the fan coil and getting blasted, while your bedroom’s got 12 metres of flexible duct coiled like a garden hose through a ceiling or under a floor. Result? One room’s the tropics, the other’s the tundra.

Poor Balancing (or None at All)

Balancing is how we adjust airflow per room to get even pressure. Most installers either don’t do it, don’t know how, or couldn’t be bothered.

If no one set dampers or calibrated your system, your airflow is a free-for-all. That’s how you end up with tropical lounges and polar bedrooms.

Crushed, Kinked, or Leaking Ducts

Flexible duct is easy to install — and even easier to screw up. If it’s crushed, kinked around a beam, or half-taped on and falling off, you’re not getting what you paid for.

We’ve fixed airflow issues that turned out to be a duct completely detached and blowing air into the ceiling void or floor space.

So… How Do You Fix It?

✔️ Get a proper airflow audit.
✔️ Check your zoning and thermostat settings.
✔️ Have your ductwork inspected and rebalanced.
✔️ Upgrade grilles if needed — size, style, and placement matter.

At Goldies, we’ve fixed this issue more times than we can count — and every time, it comes down to the details most mobs overlook.

If your airflow’s all over the place, let us come take a look. We’ll map it out, show you what’s going wrong, and sort it properly.
